Hair Braiding Experience
Tired of wearing your hair the same way every day? Let the women of Danpaati River Lodge show you something different!
In Saramaccan culture, hair braiding is both an art and a form of daily expression. The women of the village have an incredible range of braided hairstyles, many of which they create for themselves without the use of hair ties, curlers, or dryers.
In just half an hour, a beautiful, intricate braided hairstyle can be crafted from scratch tight, neat, and full of personality. Each braid tells a story. Some styles feature sleek, tightly woven patterns against the scalp, while others showcase full coverage braids flowing from the crown of the head. Many women change their hairstyle daily or even multiple times a day!
Hair braiding is not only a practical and aesthetic ritual, but also a social activity a moment of connection, creativity, and care among women.
Join this experience and have your hair professionally braided by one of our talented local stylists. Within the hour, you’ll walk away with a beautiful new look that can last for days!

Good to Know
• All hair types are welcome—long or short, curly, straight, or fine.
• European hair may require small elastic bands for extra hold, as Saramaccan and Creole hair is naturally thicker and holds braids more firmly.
• Maintain your braids with a handcrafted Saramaccan wooden comb, available at the lodge.
