This excursion combines a relaxing stay at the lodge with an adventurous boat trip and a visit to the fascinating Maroon communities.

The day begins with a delicious breakfast at the lodge, after which you prepare for the boat trip to Tapawatra Sula. Accompanied by an experienced guide, you step into a korjaal (traditional wooden canoe) and head upstream on the Suriname River.

During the approximately 1.5-hour boat ride, you’ll enjoy the serene surroundings of the rainforest. Along the way, you’ll pass picturesque Maroon villages, lush jungle, and various rapids. The guide will share interesting stories about the history of the Maroons, their culture, and the area’s flora and fauna.

Upon arrival at Tapawatra Sula, where the Gran Rio and the Pikin Rio converge, you’ll be treated to a breathtaking view of the powerful rapids. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to:

• Relax in the natural jacuzzis formed by the river’s current

• Swim in the refreshing water and enjoy the peace of nature

• Walk across the rock formations and explore the surroundings

For adventurous travelers, there is an option to take a jungle hike to Ananas Berg (Pineapple Mountain) accompanied by the guide. During this 2.5-hour hike, you’ll learn about medicinal plants, jungle wildlife, and how the Maroons use ancient knowledge to live in harmony with nature.

In the afternoon, you’ll get back into the korjaal for the return trip to Danpaati River Lodge.
Upon arrival at the lodge, you can reflect on the experience with a refreshing drink, a relaxing moment in the hammocks, and a tasty dinner.
