Tour Packages

Day 1
Your journey to Danpaati River Lodge begins early in the morning with a comfortable, air-conditioned bus ride from Paramaribo to Atjoni. The drive takes about 3 hours, including a few short stops. At Atjoni, a boat will be waiting to take you on a scenic 2.5-hour trip over the Suriname River to the lodge.

Upon arrival, the lodge manager will warmly welcome you and, over a refreshing drink, talk you through the program for the next three days. After that, you’ll enjoy a delicious local lunch before one of our team members takes you to your cabin, where you can unpack, freshen up, and take some time to rest.

Later in the afternoon, you’ll be invited on a guided island tour or free to explore on your own. As the day cools, we’ll take you by boat to a natural jacuzzi the nearby rapids, or “Sula’s” where you can swim and relax (depending on the water level).

Dinner is served at 8:00 p.m. and includes a tasty mix of local dishes with Western touches. The evening is yours to enjoy on your balcony or in the cozy lounge bar, with a drink in hand and the soothing sounds of the jungle all around you.

Day 2
After a hearty breakfast, it’s time to explore the surroundings of Danpaati. Our experienced guide will take you on a village tour in Dan, where you’ll meet local residents and learn about their daily lives, rich traditions, and cultural heritage passed down from African ancestors.

Back at the lodge, enjoy another flavorful lunch, followed by free time to swim, relax, or book additional excursions. In the evening, after dinner, a nighttime boat trip awaits. If the skies are clear, you’ll witness a breathtaking starry night while quietly gliding through the Amazon in search of nocturnal wildlife.

Day 3
Your final day begins with breakfast and a guided forest hike. On this walk, you’ll discover traditional and medicinal plants and trees, and with a bit of luck, spot some exotic animals and insects along the way.

Around noon, you’ll return to Danpaati for a final delicious lunch before it’s time to say goodbye. A motorized canoe will take you back to Atjoni, where your bus will be waiting to bring you back to Paramaribo.

Day 1

Upon arrival at Danpaati, the lodge manager will greet you with a warm welcome and a refreshing drink, followed by an explanation of the upcoming days. Then it’s time to enjoy a delicious local lunch. One of our staff members will guide you to your cabin, where you can settle in, freshen up, and relax.

Later in the afternoon, you’ll be invited for a guided island tour or you can explore on your own. As the day winds down, we’ll take you to the nearby rapids also known as our natural jacuzzi  for a refreshing swim (depending on the water level). At 8:00 p.m., dinner is served, offering a blend of local and Western flavors. End your evening relaxing on your balcony or in the cozy lounge bar, surrounded by the soothing sounds of the rainforest.

Day 2
After a tasty breakfast, it’s time to explore the surroundings of Danpaati. A guided village tour will take you to the nearby community of Dan, where you’ll learn more about the traditional way of life of the Maroon people descendants of African ancestors who continue to live by customs passed down through generations.

Once you return, enjoy a well-deserved lunch and spend the afternoon at your leisure swimming, relaxing, or booking an optional activity. In the evening, after dinner, get ready for an exciting adventure: the caiman tour. As you glide across the river under a starry sky (weather permitting), your guide will help you spot caimans and night birds in their natural habitat.

Day 3
This morning begins with a guided forest walk. Along the way, you’ll discover medicinal plants and traditional trees, and with a little luck, you might spot some exotic animals and insects.

After returning around noon, a delicious lunch will be waiting at the lodge. In the evening, following dinner, you’ll be treated to a special cultural dance performance. Traditional dances such as Seketi, Awasa, and Banamba will be performed, and your guide will explain the meaning behind each one.
(Please note: the cultural performance is offered only when there is a minimum of 8 guests.)

Day 4
On your final day, enjoy the island at your own pace. Swim, kayak, go for a nature walk, or simply relax in a hammock and soak in the peace of the rainforest. You’ll also have one last chance to join one of our other optional activities before it’s time to say goodbye. After lunch, your journey back begins with a motorized canoe ride to Atjoni, followed by the return bus trip to Paramaribo.

This tour also includes a visit to the Maroon Museum, located in the village of Pikinslee, about 30 minutes downstream from the lodge. There, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of Maroon history, culture, and traditions.

In the late afternoon, you’ll be taken by canoe to the nearby river rapids our “natural jacuzzi” for a refreshing swim (depending on the water level). At 8:00 p.m., dinner is served, featuring a tasty mix of local and Western dishes. You can end the evening with a drink on your private balcony or in the lounge, enjoying the unique sounds of the Amazon rainforest.

Day 2
After breakfast, it’s time to explore the surroundings of Danpaati. An experienced guide will take you on a village tour to nearby Dan, where you’ll get to know the Maroon way of life and their deep-rooted traditions, passed down from their African ancestors.

Back at the lodge, a flavorful lunch will be served, and the rest of the afternoon is yours to swim, relax, or book an additional tour. After dinner, a special night tour awaits. If the skies are clear, you’ll float under a star-filled sky while searching for caimans and nightjars a magical Amazon experience.

Day 3
The third day begins with a guided forest walk. Learn about traditional and medicinal plants, and with a little luck, you might spot some exotic animals and insects along the way.

Around noon, return to Danpaati for a delicious lunch. Later in the evening, enjoy a cultural dance performance with traditional dances like Seketi, Awasa, and Bandamba. Your guide will explain the meaning behind these dances and their role in Maroon culture.
(Please note: the cultural dance night is only offered with a minimum of 8 guests.)

Day 4
After breakfast, you can choose how to spend your morning  relax in a hammock with a good book or take part in one of our other unique tours. If you’re interested, you can join our Community Care Project. Visit the surrounding villages, meet the elderly, and help support daily care tasks. It’s a touching and meaningful way to give back during your stay.

Day 5
Your last day on the island is yours to enjoy however you like  swimming, kayaking, connecting with nature, or simply resting in your hammock. You’ll also have a final chance to join one of our amazing tours before it’s time to say goodbye. After lunch, the motorized canoe will take you back to Atjoni, where your bus will be waiting to return you to Paramaribo.

This package also includes a visit to two special highlights:

  • The Maroon Museum in the village of Pikinslee, where you’ll learn more about the lifestyle, customs, and rich heritage of the Saramaccan community.

  • The Tapawatra Rapids (Sula), a powerful natural stream at the point where the Gran Rio flows into the Suriname River a breathtaking sight and unforgettable experience.
