About this tour
Coconut Oil Experience
Join us for a beautiful, down-to-earth experience where you’ll learn how pure coconut oil is made by hand, and with heart.
From Danpaati River Lodge, you’ll take a short boat trip to a nearby village, where the community still follows traditional methods to turn coconuts into this all-natural, multipurpose oil. You’ll be welcomed by locals who are eager to share not just their skills, but also their stories and culture.
In many villages along the Upper Suriname River, coconut oil is part of daily life. It’s used for cooking, haircare, and even in traditional healing. Making it is a slow and entirely natural process.
The process begins with grating and squeezing fresh coconut meat to extract the milk. The milk is then left to rest so the oil can naturally separate. Finally, it’s gently heated until the clear oil rises to the top. The result is a beautifully fragrant, golden oil pure and full of goodness.
Why Join This Workshop?
This is more than just a demonstration; it’s a chance to slow down and connect with local people and traditions. You’ll take part in something meaningful while helping preserve a skill that’s been passed down for generations. Plus, your visit directly supports the women and families who open their doors and share their knowledge.
